Visiting The Town

Coming to Stroncone we find the Square “Piazza della Liberta” with its 16th century fountain: the central gable, the two side - fishes and the three circular basins remind us of old memories.

Over the Castle’s Gateway, we can see on the left the Oratory of S.Giovanni Decollato, inside which we can admire some valuable pictures showing events from the life of the Baptist.

Taking the Via Delfini we come to the Via dell’Arringo, where we can visit the historical notorial archives of the town. Further on we get to the Church “Collegiata di S.Nicolò” with its simple facade facing a wide square, a place mentioned as “Platea St. Nicolai”.

Further on we come to the Town-Hall, where we can see a collection of coins, medals and seals from different times, together with very important illuminated codices (14th and 15th century), from the historical an musical point of view.

We can now visit the so-called “Piazzetta della Torre”, so called because of an old fortress. Taking the via G.Contessa, after the sanctuary dedicated to the wars’ victims we come to the church “Collegiata S.Michele Arcangelo”, the oldest church in Stroncone, being mentioned in a document of 1012.
